The pics below start w/ the abby in Bath, the last great
medieval church in England.
The archway in the 5th pic is one of four around the city that
used to be the main entrances into the city built during
Roman times. Still standing and in perfect condition!

Jolly's the world's first Dept Store. If you double click
on this photo to enlarge it, you can see all 3 of us in the
window, didn't realize that when I was taking it. Finally
another photo of all three of us :)

Sally Lunn's Restaurant. Sally Lunn came to Bath from
France in the early 1600's to escape religious persecution
of the Protestants (?) and went to work for a baker there.
Her recipe for brioche buns became legendary and are still
being made today at the same location.  We had lunch there,
and they are incredible! The restaurant is also the oldest
house in Bath, excavations have found the remains of
ovens from the ancient Roman Days.  The house has been
used for many things, but was finally returned to a
restaurant/bakery, thank goodness. In 1937 Sally Lunn's
original recipe was found hidden in a secret cupboard
inside the panelling and is still used to make her
wonderful creation!

The walkway is where Jane Austin used to take her walks
in the afternoon. And the blue door is where she lived while
in Bath before her father died.  It is now the office of an
oral surgeon. What's interesting is that all over the UK
there are blue markers on buildings where someone
noteworthy or famous had once lived, but not on this house.
Marisa and I visited the Jane Austin museum a block
or so down the street. It struck us both as being shabby
and uncared for! It doesn't seem like there is much
support for Jane Austin by the city of Bath. Maybe
stemming from her not so glorious commentary about
the city and it's people?  I was really missing
the book club I had been in while visiting here!

Below that is the River Arno and the Pulteney Bridge.
The photo of the white door is the house in the Crescent
Circus is where Nicolas Cage lives.  His house number
is 7, it's missing since someone stole it a while back,
and hasn't been replaced. (Circus in the UK means
circle - I always thought it was called a circus - like
Piccadilly and Oxford Circus b/c it was crazy busy,
but no, it just means circle to them!) Johnny Depp
also lives in Bath, and shows up at a local pub to
join in with the band on the weekends.  We didn't
see either of them tho!

Marisa standing at one of the ancient Roman walls,
if you double click on it, you can read the sign!
